Manufacture of prestressed concrete elements

The prestressing technique consists of applying stresses prior to the entry into service of the structure by tensioning steel wires or strands before concreting.

This technique is used to manufacture prestressed concrete elements to be placed later on site, such as joists, hollow core slabs, poles for electrical or telephone lines, high-strength pipes or railroad sleepers, among others.

TYCSA PSC produces high yield strength wire of different diameters, with different breaking strengths and finishes (plain or drawn).

Steel strands, with three or seven wires, are offered in various diameters and strengths to meet our customers’ different designs and nominal cross-section requirements.

Construction of post-tensioned concrete elements

The post-tensioning technique consists of applying stresses prior to the entry into service of the structure by stressing steel strands after concreting.

The beads can be located inside the concrete or outside, and can be bonded or non-bonded. Examples of post-tensioned structures are bridge decks, long-span slabs or slabs that must support large loads, liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanks or silos, among others.

To cover the different requirements needed on site, TYCSA PSC offers its strands according to the specifications of the most widely used post-tensioning standards in international markets.

All strands can be supplied with different corrosion barriers. In the case of post-tensioning, the steel cord can be coated with grease and a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) sheath.

Cable-stayed bridges

The use of stay cables in bridge construction compensates for stresses and reduces deflections. As a result, several positive effects are achieved on the structure (reduction of the deck thickness, improvement of dynamic stability, reduction of execution time, etc.), allowing large spans to be saved and at the same time reducing costs.

TYCSA PSC is a world leader in high-strength steels for cable-stayed bridges due to its experience and constant product development.

TYCSA PSC offers 7-wire steel strands, protected with various corrosion barriers. These barriers can be up to three, in the case of galvanized cords with wax or grease and a high density polyethylene sheath.

Ground anchors

High-strength steels are also used as active anchors in soil consolidation, whether temporary or permanent.

Combined with grout injection, a deep foundation is easy to execute. Its use is especially indicated in poor quality soils and in special actions on the soil (slopes, land subject to stresses prior to the execution of the work, etc.).

Seven-wire steel cord with diameters of about 15 mm is used for anchoring.
