Sustainability
Celsa’s production model is based on scrap recycling for the production of low-emission steel. This allows us to position ourselves as a key player in the ecological and just transition. Throughout our history, at Celsa, we have integrated sustainability into our value chain from the very beginning, making us a company that today represents an example of the circular economy at the national and international levels.
Furthermore, we are able to recover the byproducts generated in the production process of our steel thanks to the network of supplier companies, customers, and other stakeholders who collaborate in their recovery. This is the foundation of our purpose: to give infinite life to finite natural resources.

At Celsa, we build our sustainable development strategy on seven fundamental commitments.
The steel sector accounts for approximately 5% of greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union and 7% worldwide, and is one of the target sectors of the Paris Agreement. The steel sector is essential to achieving the goal of limiting global temperature rise to 2°C and preventing it from exceeding 1.5°C. Aware of the challenge that climate change poses to the planet, at Celsa we approved the Climate Action Policy in 2023, which sets out as its main objectives the improvement of energy efficiency, the promotion of renewable energies, and the reduction of the use of fossil fuels.
The current global economy is only 7.2% circular, and year after year, the results are worsening due to the increased extraction and use of natural resources. At Celsa, we are firmly committed to recovering the waste generated during the steelmaking process to boost the circular economy. We are investing to increase recovery rates and open new business lines linked to the recycling and processing of plastics, other non-ferrous metals, and wood, using pioneering techniques. In 2023, we approved the Innovation Policy, which includes the incorporation of sustainability criteria. Innovation is crucial and has allowed us to position ourselves as leaders in the circular industry.
The company’s team of professionals not only drives the improvement of our business but is also essential to the company’s present and future. Our top priorities are safety, health, and well-being, attracting and developing talent, commitment to and alignment with the organization’s values, and ethics and professional development.
Our commitment to health and safety is transversal, extending to all people associated with the organization, including contractors, clients, suppliers, and the community.
In 2023, we updated, approved, and published the Occupational Health and Safety Policy.
We are committed to equal opportunities, diversity, and well-being in work and family life.
We operate in a sector where women have traditionally been underrepresented. Aware of this challenge, we implement equality policies and action plans to reverse this situation.
Diversity is essential to our corporate culture, and we prohibit any form of discrimination according to our Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. We believe in the capabilities and values of individuals. In 2023, we approved our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Policy.
At the local level, we have established strong ties with client and supplier companies over the years.
We fully respect the local cultures of the countries and territories where we operate.
We are committed to responsible supply chains and foster communication with all stakeholders to achieve sustainable and socially beneficial operations.
In 2023, we approved the new Policy on Dialogue and Communication with Stakeholders, reinforcing our commitment to sustainability and cultural respect.
At Celsa, we approved the new Supply Chain Policy in 2023. Our supplier certification procedure positively evaluates those with the best performance in environmental, social, and governance aspects, which also have an environmental management system compliant with ISO 14001 and an occupational health and safety management system compliant with ISO 45001.
This policy establishes that contractual terms must clearly reflect the supplier companies’ commitment to the Code of Ethics and the Global Compact Principles on human rights, labor, environmental, and anti-corruption issues, emphasizing the minimization of environmental impact.
At Celsa, we are firmly committed to ethics and transparency in our operations. We also adhere to principles of integrity and transparent disclosure of information, going beyond compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
2030 AND 2050 GOALS
In the current context, with growing social, environmental, and good governance concerns, it is more necessary than ever to develop a sustainability strategy that helps us take advantage of business opportunities and respond to the growing demand from client companies to purchase our sustainable products and services, and, of course, to meet the expectations of our stakeholders. We are currently in the process of developing and defining our company’s sustainability strategy, with the goal of integrating responsible and sustainable practices into all our operations.
At Celsa, we are committed to the responsible management of natural resources, risk mitigation, business resilience to adverse impacts, and adaptation to regulatory changes.
